What does “bumped” mean on Vinted?

Visibility6 min readUpdated

On Vinted, “bumped” means a listing has been pushed back towards the top of search results and category feeds, where new listings normally appear. A bump lasts around three days and is a paid promotion — you pay a small fee per item to buy back the visibility a listing loses as it ages.

If you see “Bumped” on someone else's item, it simply means they paid to promote it. It says nothing about the item's quality or the seller's rating.

Why listings need bumping at all

Vinted's default sort is heavily weighted towards recency. A new listing appears near the top of its category, gets a burst of views over the first day or two, then slides down as newer items are posted above it.

That decay has nothing to do with how good the item is. A well-priced jacket posted six weeks ago is buried under thousands of newer listings purely because of when it was posted. Bumping resets that position without resetting anything else.

What bumping costs

Bump pricing varies by market and is charged per item, typically under a pound or euro for three days of promotion. Vinted regularly offers discounted multi-item bundles and occasional free bumps.

The economics only work on items where the margin justifies it. Bumping a £4 t-shirt rarely pays for itself; bumping a £45 coat that has stalled usually does.

Bump vs relist: which to use

These look interchangeable and are not. Bumping promotes the existing listing — it keeps the item's view count, favourites and any accumulated interest, and costs money. Relisting deletes the item and posts it fresh — it is free, but it wipes the listing's history, including everyone who favourited it.

Favourites matter more than most sellers realise. People who favourite an item are notified when its price drops, so a listing with twenty favourites is a small mailing list. Relisting throws that away.

  • Bump when the item has favourites or views worth keeping
  • Bump when the price is right and the item just needs to be seen
  • Relist when the listing itself is the problem — bad photos, wrong category, weak title
  • Relist when the item has no favourites and nothing to lose
  • Do neither if the item has lots of views and no offers — drop the price instead

When bumping is a waste of money

Bumping shows an item to more people. If the reason it is not selling is that people who see it do not want it at that price, more views change nothing — you are paying to have the same rejection happen faster.

Read the ratio before you spend. High views and no offers means a pricing problem. Low views over weeks means a visibility problem, and that is the case bumping is actually for.

Bumping at scale without babysitting it

For a closet of a few dozen items, deciding what to bump each week is a manual scan. Past that it becomes genuinely tedious, and the items that most need a bump are the ones you have stopped thinking about.

This is what VintSale's auto-bump does: it watches which listings have gone quiet, skips anything with an open offer or an active conversation, respects a daily cap you set, and logs every action so you can see exactly what it did and what it cost.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a bump last on Vinted?

Around three days. After that the listing resumes its normal decline down the search results as newer items are posted above it.

Is bumping on Vinted worth it?

It is worth it for items with enough margin to cover the fee that have stopped getting views despite being correctly priced. It is not worth it for low-value items, or for items getting plenty of views but no offers — those have a pricing problem that more visibility will not fix.

Does bumping guarantee a sale?

No. Bumping only buys visibility. If the price, photos or description are the obstacle, a bump puts the same listing in front of more people who will make the same decision.

Can you bump for free on Vinted?

Vinted occasionally runs promotions offering free or discounted bumps. Relisting is always free, but it deletes the listing's views and favourites.

What is the difference between bumping and relisting on Vinted?

Bumping is a paid promotion that pushes your existing listing back up the results while keeping its views and favourites. Relisting deletes the item and posts it as new, which is free but resets its history and loses everyone who had favourited it.
